San Diego County District Develops New Teaching Methods to Utilize Classroom Technology

Oceanside Unified School District, like many others, has begun using tablets and mobile devices as educational tools. One main point about integrating the technology was that the focus was not only on using the technology to create projects and conduct research, but on making sure the devices fully enhanced the learning experience. Doug Kriedeman, OUSD’s coordinator of assessment, states that “the devices themselves do not make students more engaged,” meaning in order for students to have a strengthened learning experience with the devices, it is important that teachers focus attention towards developing projects and lesson plans that will encourage students to work creatively.
