“Letter to Grandpa”: Launch of Animated Climate Crisis PSA, 9.1.2024

Young Mind Interactive is proud to announce that we have just finalized the production of our most recent animation project, “Letter to Grandpa”, a public service announcement aimed at educating and activating outdoor enthusiasts, fishing and hunting communities to the realities of Climate Change and the impact of the Climate Crisis on those popular activities. The project was born out of common interests between very different people, who worked together to create a finely tuned message to a specific demographic in advance of the upcoming election.

“If you like fishing, hunting, or just hiking in the woods, the future looks pretty rough. The Climate is in Crisis and it affects the things we love to do with our families. Climate Change is not only real, it’s scary for children. But you can do something about it locally, and nationally. Get more informed about Climate Change and the Climate Crisis at “LettertoGrandpa.info” Where you’ll find the resources you’ll need to take action. Because our kids and grandkids are counting on us to do a better job taking care of our planet.”

The animation was created by artist Jeffrey Wiener and his team of young animators on their iPads, using the newest animation APP called “Dreams” by the software company Procreate. The concept of the animation was to use the expressionistic style of children’s coloring with crayons to communicate the overwhelming emotional impact that Climate Crisis might have on their young minds. Using the technique of a “Fly-Through” across a frightening landscape of natural disasters and destruction, the short story is narrated by a young child who is reading a letter to his grandpa about his fears of the outside world.

The animation is slated for several months of promotion in the run-up to the 2024 election. The goal is to reach out to “On-The-Fence Voters” who are conservative and also lovers of Planet Earth, in order to educate and activate them to take some kind of action on the Climate Crisis. The purchase of advertising media space on social media like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube is being driven by a grassroots effort organized by the members of a local chapter of Extinction Rebellion called the “Mid-Hudson Extinction Rebellion”, located in the Woodstock, New York region.
